Which is faster?
the 1.83 is more expensive!
Another question!
since i dont plan to game, can i just go with the Intel graphics card. I only plan to do some photo and video editing, watch DVDS and play my music.
Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, most video tasks (not just gaming) are improved with a better video card. I could be wrong though, I don't know.

The Intel card will still play DVD's pretty well. It will use more CPU than with a dedicated video card, but that's not a huge deal.
As for the Core Duo vs. the Core 2 Duo, the 1.83GHz will probably be faster. Expect an average of 5% increase on a Core 2 Duo vs. it's Core Duo counterpart, so A [email protected]*1.05 ~ 1.74GHz C1D.
This is assuming that you aren't going to use 64bit operating systems and software, which are C2D only. -
I think the 1.83 Core Duo will be faster. But if the 1.66 Core 2 Duo is cheaper, I think I would still go with it. The difference in performance will be pretty neglible, but the Core 2 Duo offers 64-bit support while the Core Duo does not... a big difference. And the C2D is cheaper. I see no reason why not to go with it. Not to mention the C2D is supposed to give better battery life, but I don't know whether that has been proven conclusively or not yet.
As for the Intel card, it will be fine. If you don't plan on gaming, you'll be good to go. Like Pitabred said, playing DVDs will take more out of your CPU, but that won't be a big deal with a Core Duo/Core 2 Duo. People do it all the time. Of course, a dedicated card is always nice, especially with Vista around the corner. But not necessary. -
Thanks.
I guess i'd go for the core 2 duo and the ATI dedicated card.
I'm trying to config. the E1505. on the dell website.
Thanks all. -
the core2duo, improves battery life! the latest one (not engineering samples, but the production version) actually shown that core2duo improves battery life and reduces heat. it is less power consuming at full load than its predecessor (the coreduo).
Core 2 Duo 1.66GHz vs Core duo 1.83Ghz
