Problem: In Windows Vista Home Premium, when I click Start > Documents, and I get this error message: "C:\Users\User Name\Documents is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
Other folders (Music, Pictures) work just fine. Only the Documents folder gives me problems.
Remedy attempts: I already tried searching Google and Microsoft.com, with no luck.
If I attempt a System Restore, it says: "Windows has detected file system corruption on Local Disk (C: ). You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored." I do, but it tells me that Windows can't check the disk while it's in use. I click the Schedule disk check button, reboot, and nothing happens. It just goes straight to Windows without doing anything resembling a disk check.
I also tried the "sfc /scannow" command prompt with administrator privileges. After the scan completed, it said: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in [...] C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log." When I try to open the log file, I get: "Access is denied."
I am most definitely at my wit's end.

I really think you are going to have to reinstall your operating system. Sorry.
-
I think it's a hardware error, not a software error. How will reinstalling the OS fix a hardware error?
All I should have to do is repair the hard disk to gain access to my files, right? -
Have you tried a system restore/repair from safe mode?
-
it sounds like there has been some corruption on the file structure where documents lie on vistas partition that would suggest software just like blondie56 said a reinstall should work
-
or just try first a windows repair so that u do not have to lose all ur current personal files
cheers ... -
Problem solved (apparently). Thanks to all for the suggestions. After booting from my Windows Vista OS CD, I was able to check the local disk for errors by going through the System Restore interface.
So far, Vista has been rather unstable for me, as this is not the first time something has gone haywire. I'm considering reinstalling the OS completely, but I'm unsure if that will make much difference. -
cheers ...
