    Hi,
I've ordered my dell studio 15 laptop and it'll be delivered to me tomorrow. From what I know, partitions are not created by them. Can someone help me on how to create two partitions, C & D? My hard disk is 500gb big and I want each to be 250gb big.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before. Will appreciate replies.
    Thanks.

The best way would be using a free tool that boots instead of Windows, like PartedMagic:
    http://partedmagic.com/

However, note that resizing a partition can take a very long time. If you can, deleting the partitions, recreating them, then doing a clean install is going to be faster.

Your Dell might have a recovery partition on it too.

I would just boot from a linux distro (live CD or usb using unetbootin-windows) and use that to partition.

If your laptop is new? More than likely you can use the Computer Management tool in Windows.

    Why 2 250's?
Just curious. I have a 500GB drive in my laptop and use a 40 GB OS partition and a 425 GB partition for media and such.

Have you thought about a clean install of windows?

500GB can be a little daunting to the kids.

It's like when they first move into a big home.

"OMG, what am I going to do with all this SPACE?????"
