Greetings - I saw this mentioned in another post - but I couldn't find it. And I just noticed that the forum search tool is gone; maybe there was a sticky on this but the "Search" button appears to be gone. Anyways - there was supposed to be an option under Maintenance in Vista SP1 to create a bootable repair CD. I have installed SP1 on three systems and I cannot find this option. Does anyone have any info on this? TIA...

They removed it. Or rather, they disabled it. Don't know why. There's a hack though to get it. I can't remember the details... Google around.

Hmm, I'm searching for that in google, but can't find anything yet. I'd be very interested in that if it's possible to enable it.
EDIT: Oh I see now. It's not for restoring a windows installation, just repairing one that can't boot. Useless to me. :)

That's the page I was reading. I really do not recommend using beta software. If you need a real backup, then I suggest using CompletePC Backup, Acronis or Norton, or some other software. :)

You might want to ask the lawyers at Google about why that button is gone from the start menu.

He's referring to the search option in the Vista start menu:

    Before SP1

    After SP1

Clicking this would bring up the main Windows Search UI-It can still be accessed by pressing Windows Key + F on the desktop.

The reason why it was removed was due to Google claiming that it was anti-competitive and that it threatened Google's position in the desktop search field. Also, the indexing engine in Windows Vista was changed so that it would significantly slow down it's indexing process when another desktop search program was installed, to increase system performance by not having two indexers looking at the hard drive at full speed.
