I want to create a RAMdisk specifically for Chrome's cache.
a) How would I go about doing this/ what programs.
b) What size should I keep it? I have 4GB of RAM and I'd like to keep the RAMdisk as small as possible.
c) Unrelated but can you use a RAMdisk for your program files folder or other things? I'd be interested in putting everything having to do with Chrome onto it since it's easily my most used program.

for the software I am using RAMDisk - Software - Server Memory Products & Services - Dataram ... works great!
as for the size I am currently using 200mb for chrome cashe
and for your last statement... you can use it for what ever you want! it shows up as a new drive in windows -
Hm. Could I install Chrome to the RAMDisk? Or put anything else?
I made it 700MB. Currently it's "438MB free of 698MB"
I got Chrome to use the User Data folder in there, which should include the cache right?
Also, if I ever upgrade to 8GB of RAM it won't screw this up right? -
No if you install more ram what you would need to do is save the ramdisk to a image file (the app can do that) then turn off the ramdisk, install the new ram... then restore the image...
Ya the ramdisk shows up like any harddrive or flash drive... but what i did is place all the chrome cashe on there so pages that i frequently go to load in a instant -
Yeah, I have it so it saves when I shut the computer down and every hour as well.
I'm planning on upgrading to 8GB of RAM eventually. If I do that I'll probably increase the RAMdisk size and put more things onto it.
I'm just wondering for now what else to put on it to speed Chrome (or really any program) up more. -

you need to speed up chrome? what have you done to it? it's about the fastest app available (save notepad, and maybe calc).
-
I use chrome because it's the fastest. I prioritize speed, which means I'm gonna speed it up wherever I can.
-
C:\Users\"myname"\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --user-data-dir="H:\User Data"-disable-dev-tools -disable-logging -disable-metrics-system -disable-metrics-reporting
Currently that's what my Chrome location looks like. I use beta and the about:flags.
Just trying to speed up where I can because it's by far my most used application. -

sure thing, but there's a law of diminishing returns. and chrome sure doens't get really faster anymore no matter what you do.
well okay, maybe it's different on your slow harddrive, i don't know -
Well I'll be upgrading to an XT soon, but I don't think it'll much much of a difference for chrome.
-
Wouldn't it be just about as fast to disable the cache? I mean, if you're not persisting data between reboots there's no reason to have a cache at all really. Unless you close and open your browser all the time.

he saves the ramdisk every hour and at shutdown, though.. so he does have the cache (disabling it would make browsing quite a bit slower actually).
-
As davepermen said, I do have a cache. It's saved every hour (in case of powerloss or BSOD or something) and it saves as I shut down my computer. It basically just means that my Chrome profile/cache/all user data is accessed quickly.
Creating RAMDisk for Chrome, what size?
