Hi, I received my new laptop yesterday (M6300) and I'm thinking about creating a partition for documents and keep the original one for OS, programs...
The question is: do you reccomend using the disk manager tool to create the partition without formatting? I've heard the only and best way to create partitions is before a fresh installation of XP Pro. That's what I always did.
I would not mind to start with the partition/format/install OS process, but I've heard that it can be somewhat annoying with SATA drives. I've read the "slipstream" guide to include the drivers and all, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.
Thanks.

Installing windows on SATA drives usually isn't any different from installing them on regular IDE drives. Some machines may requires you to install a driver for it, but it is usually straight foward. The disk manager tool is great for creating partitions, however the one included with XP doesn't include a 'shrink' option (you can't make the system partion smaller.) For that you would want a utility such as Partition Magic or something similar.

Sounds like you want to Resize your XP partition to make room to create a "Storage" Partition. I'm I correct?
