Most laptops do not come with windows 7 media.
I was wondering if its possible to create windows 7 DVD from the win 7 on laptop.
the basic reason I want to do this is that if I want to change the internal HDD of the laptop to a new bigger one, and then do a fresh windows install, I am out of options with the current crop.
My inspiron came with a windows Disk which I successfully used to reinstall windows on my system when I changed the HDD

Typically, how many DVDs are needed for a restore disk.
And if I put in a brand new HDD, I just need to boot from recovery disk and instal?

For my Qosmio X505-Q890 running Win 7 Home Premium, I needed a total of 5 disks to make my recovery disks. So, I'd plan on at least 5 disks depending on all the crapware that was installed on your computer.

And yes, you'd just need to boot from the 1st disk of your recovery disks. The computer will tell you when you need to go to the next disk.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!!

When you open the Recovery Media Creator it should tell you how many dvds are needed,my Toshiba needs 2 Dvds and Lenovo needed the same, but im not sure if its just the same for any case.

There you go,it depends on the laptop since tbonez needed 5

press on start and in the search field write "Recovery Media Creator" and when you open it it should tell you how many disks you need

The free version 60 day trial is. Since I am not planning to buy it, I would install openoffice as soon as I get the baby.

The recovery media is created from the recovery partition,it doesn't create an image of your current windows,so uninstalling such programs won't make any difference.

And MS office isn't really crapware, unless you mean the trial version that comes with every laptop

Instead of a disk just use a USB, that way you dont have to carry something bulky and the installation is gonna be faster. You can make it using either a Win7 Disk or ISO(legally). Microsoft already made the tool to make it happen.

You can also use a full image backup tool to simply "back up" you system, then restore it to the larger drive.

But I agree that recovery wizard should guide you through. Any luck with that?

Use vLite to integrate your drivers into your Windows Setup.
