This is driving me nearly insane and I'm hoping that someone could help.

I have thinkpad W701 with fresh Windows 7 x64 installed. I did manual fresh install, not the factory recovery.

I have only few things installed - all the necessary drivers, Microsoft Office, Origin with NFS game, and TDU2.

the problem is that everytime I power it down or restart, the computer makes "critical stop sound" with no error message.

the computer is rock-stable - i played games for few hours and web surfing for many hours and never game me any errors.

it's only when i power it down or restart that the windows game me this critical stop sound... but other than the brief sound,

it powers down or restarts as it should.

i looked at the event viewer and noticed two recurring errors - one related to windows DVD i used, and another with some obscure network problem.

i fixed the first issue by using "microsoft fixit program" and the second one by following the solution posted on Microsoft site - using regedit and change

some code. the end result is that i no longer see those two errors in event viewer but i still get the same critical stop sound...

i tried a lot of things - including reinstalling some drivers and applying every single patches available in microsoft website for windows 7 and office suite.

but so far none seems to work and i still get the annoying critical stop sound when i restart my pc...

    can anyone help?

Probably need to try "run" "msconfig", disable everything except Microsoft app, drivers, programs etc and see if it goes away. If it does then re-enable half of those that were disabled earlier.

Keep doing this until it's narrowed down.

thank you so much!!! for your help

i used msconfig as you suggested and i found out that dropbox is causing the problem.

maybe the lastest dropbox program has a bug cuz my other laptops that has dropbox (that was installed a while ago) does not

    have this problem.

    thanks again!
