    My laptop's screen is 1280x800; 16:10

OK, with VLC, if the video (DVD) is letter-boxed with black bars top and bottom, i.e. because it is 16:9, then on the bottom edge of the video alongside the bottom black bar, the line isn't straight. See attached picture. That is the only fault to the output. Not a huge problem but distracting

When I change to full screen the fault can be seen on the top edge of the video instead. If I change the output to 16:10 which stretches the picture but fills my screen minus black bars, you can still see it right on the edge

Had previous version of VLC, downloaded latest. Same problem. I use default settings

As for Media Player Classic, I use K-Lite codec pack. Even worse is that it does not render DVD menu's correctly. No idea which output render I should select in options, but ones I've tried all still look dodgy

    Thanks

So I just took the time and effort to update drivers from modified 7.1 Omega's rotfl. I now have 5 sets of drivers from 6.8's to 7.6's

Anyway, problem still there lol. Hmmm

P.S. This time I used ATI mobile 7.6's

Interlaced video is made up of 2 fields of 262.5 lines (NTSC). Do the math. That half line has to go somewhere. You might try one of the other de-interlace options. As to K-Lite, remove it (if you can) and just use FFDShow. Menus will probably then work.

I as saying I'm in UK so am Pal :)

Tried changing VLC deinterlacing. 'X' the only one that did not affect PQ or how video outputted. Annoying line lessened enough for me to ignore - which is a huge thing for someone with my personality rotfl

P.S. Trying very hard not to post obvious joke :p

    Update

Uninstalled VLC, now using ffdshow and MPC for my DVD playback needs. Not sure if its me setting ffdshow's deinterlacing to 5-tap lowpass doing it or some other setting, but the issue is now much better resolved. A tiny, smidgen of a blur on the bottom edge left if I move closer to the screen, but in the main gone

Then it's still gonna have a half line. Using 'X' as the VLC de-interlace option simply throws one field away, so no half line.
