I have this doubt that the cursor is moving on it's own to different places when I type in notepad in my laptop. My OS is windows XP, and it was newly
    formatted because of virus problems.

I hope, my question is clear.

Please, help in solving the doubt.

    regards

Mouse properties, check "the hide the pointer when typing"?

And yes, sometimes the mouse pointer does "wander" around on its own.

    cheers ...

I get wandering-cursor from time to time; I used to get it quite a lot before I replaced a missing screw that held the touchpad in place.
