Calling all customizers:
So, I've patched my uxtheme/themeui/shsvcs succesfully, and found a few themes that work well. However, there are some themes that I want to try but they end up beefing my system (which results in sometimes upwards of an hour to repair).
Curious if anyone knows of a repository (Linux-speak =] ) of Vista themes that work nicely with x64.
I have been frequenting DeviantArt, but very few of the themes indicate whether they work with x64 or not.
Tx.

I am using the Project X2 theme (Deviantart) - 32-bit version in Vista x64, works fine. There is a beta 64-bit version of the theme available as well.
-
Pretty slick! I may load that one on later tonight, thanks for the heads up
-
Sorry for the double:
Andy, did you have to disable UAC to get the revised shell32.dll in there?
UPDATE:
I unsuccessfully tried to install Project X2 theme....my buddy did the same on Business x64 and it pooped on us.
Got 2 different errors:
Explorer with an 0x000007b error
Task Scheduler (or something to that effect) stopped working
I had to boot back into Safe Mode (w/ command prompt) and manually set the original Shell32.dll and browseui.dll files.
Any clues what's going wrong? -
I found few Vista x64 themes in these site bro

Weird, it didn't work. I have Vista Ultimate x64 SP1. I've had UAC disabled since Day 1.
I patched shell32.dll with UAC disabled....
I guess what I did was, in the system32 folder > took ownership of the three files > changed their extensions to .old > copied the patched files to system32, downloaded from the net/wherever > then copied the whole folder "Project X2" into C:\Windows\Resources\Themes....
Then I right-clicked on the desktop > Personalize > Window Color and Appearance > Clicked "open classic appearance properties for more color options" > Saw Project X2 alongwith Aero, etc and selected it > The End: Theme worked -
Dang, I have the same setup...did the same steps, but for some reason it trips out on boot. Now, I can get most of the theme to work, just not the portions that the patched shell32 & browseui offer.
I wonder what the difference is that is causing the problem.
Tx Vinum, I'll have to check those out. -
Don't overwrite, rename their exts, and copy the patched ones in system32.
If you have a Restore Point, do a System Restore, and check out the guide to patch the files in the above post. -
Yeah, I always rename, that way I can boot into Safe Mode/command prompt and rename the originals back if/when things don't work.

same...mee too
themes worked really great..
but i cannot get the shell32.dll and browseui.dll to work..
im using vista HP 64bit SP1...

theres shell32.dll (version 6.0.6001.18062) file and it seems that this file is the one which change the systems icons..
tried patch it with
lower version of shell32.dll (ver 6.0.6001.18000) and i cant even login to windows..
repatched it in safe-mode and the system's back to normal again.. -
im trying to do the nebula theme and have followed all the instuctions but for some reason when I install the theme it goes to this all grey kinda look thats like windows 95. I noticed that almost all my files in system32 folder are related to itunes and the three files you use to patch specificly are as well. What can we do....

Itunes = Satan
+1 for MediaMonkey -
nvm, got it. Now im running a stealth theme with a black backround with nothing on it with rocketdock. trying to get some gadgets that keep it stealth looking.
-
Why dont you do all thus patching with vistaglazz 1.1? Now works with SP1
-
but its only for the themes..
and the shell32.dll files still not working -
VistaGlazz doesn't patch browseui.dll nor shell32.dll...and if it did it would have to have the capability to tell it which file to use, THAT would be 1337.
