Ok, this is really weird. It happened just now and it happened a couple days ago. I have a 1 month old D620 using the preinstalled xp (no reformat). The problem starts when a program goes crazy, like firefox shows nothing but a black page, no matter what the website. Then it and explorer.exe locks up partially. I can open the start menu and when i put my mouse cursor over stuff, it highlights but the mouse click doesn't work. Ctrl+alt+del give me the error honk and alt+f4 is non responsive, altho winkey+d works. My temp gauges tell me theres minimal cpu and hard disk load. However, it stays like this indefinitely. The only solution is to put the computer into stand by, bring it back and then reboot from the user selection screen.
AVG picked up nothing, and since i just got this, im not quite sure how to read the hijackthis scan below. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. This is really spooking me.

It may have something 2 do with ur BOIS drivers. The PC won't let me go to displays 2 set my background or reso. after I installed a newer version of Win-Flash. That time, I restored my PC 2 a time when my computer was running fine. U can do that 2 or re-install ur computer. Did u update any dodgy drivers lately?

I would do a Windows Update and see if that helps anything. Also might want to download a registry cleaner, such as RegScrubXP:

Does it happen with any other programs? Or is it just Firefox and IE?

IF you have the Nvidia card, there is a software problem between Java and the card. You should check the Dell support boards, which have a fix for the problem. You have to change a setting in the Nvidia control panel (anisotropic something or other). This may not solve your problem, but it worked for me.
