Hi all, my computer had been running normally untill Monday (well it still is despite this annoyance) when, i opened my built in empowering technology (Acer),to adjust some sound settings and run a back-up. I got the pop-up message saying that e power-DMC has stopped working and needs to close, follow by the ballon notifying me that Data Execution Prevention has prevented it from opening. I've tried allowing this to run without DEP but it won't let me do this as it says this program cant run without DEP.
I then tried uninstalling all Emporing technology drivers and reinstalling them from the Acer website, but I'm still having the same problems. I'm wondering if this could be a conflict issue, but I hadn't installed or ran anything I don't usually.
If anyone can shed any light on the matter I would be greatful.
    Thanks in advance.
    Perrin.

First of all, just gotta say I'm a pretty big fan of WoT as well. :D

As far as DEP goes for Acer's Empowering Technology, I seem to remember an issue that arose a while ago where DEP would flag both the program you're talking about and MSN Messinger, strangely enough. I never found out if they made a fix for it, but it might be worth checking out on Acer's website for driver downloads for your laptop.

If that doesn't work, the easy way to fix it is to access DEP's settings and make an exception for the empowering program you are using. But it may still give you the error where it won't run unless you had DEP enabled...

Let me know if anything works.

    Cheers for the reply J.P.
What you mentioned is what I've already done. I checked the Acer website if there was any updated drivers and downloaded them, some of them were not updated though. I also tried to create exceptions for DEP but it informed me that it couldn't run the program with DEP turned off, that's why it's really annoying me.

I tried uninstalling the drivers again, running a reg cleaner, restarting the computer, downloading drivers from acer website again and I've still got the same problem. I don't want to do a clean install.

Oh.. I could try running it in safe mode to see if it is a conflict with another program. Thats what I'll do.

I just ended up doing a clean install as I started having issues with some games as well.
I know this was the easy option without really knowing what was going on, but everything ok now.
    Thanks for the help J.P.

Good to hear! I was going to suggest that as a last measure, but I figured that went without saying :)

Perhaps I should have investigated a bit more for the sake of knowledge. I never ever had a problem with Data Execution Prevention before so why now?
Well its all done with now (I hope). But if it ever happens again I will be sure to investigate further.... for the sake of knowledge.

I just had the same problem since Wednesday preventing me executing a game. I had to do a clean install of vista i updated it all and now it gets the way of everything. I even tried disabling it but that didn't even work.

What game was it? My daughter was playing Sims 3 and it would do it with that. Could be a game glitch.
But like I said it seems ok now.

I've only ever had problems with DEP in XP, but that was so bad that it prevented me from using Windows Explorer and would cause the entire computer to freeze for a few seconds up to a minute at a time. As the OP did, I clean installed and it went away.
