OK - slightly different question from me, but I'm not really sure how this error occurs... or if some DRM/Region limitation lunatic has been let loose by Paramount...
I've got a DVD set (The Godfather, 4 DVDs) which plays fine in WinDVD.
However for some reason if my fan doesn't kick in quick enough my Intel GPU can crash - I have no idea why... maybe the thermal paste went bad... maybe the cooling isn't quite strong enough (vents are clean, and it doesn't really matter - never happens in normal operations and has been around as a potential issue for some time by now)
Anyway, so I decided to open the DVD in Windows Media Player I get an error message that it cannot play the DVD due to an problem between the DVD player, decoder and graphics card.
It suggests installing a newer graphics driver... well, the newest is from 2009and the Win7 which installed interestingly enough is from 2010.
-> Has anybody seen that before?
I possibly had a US graphics driver - but I changed it to a "German version" today... -> OS German, DVD region never changed either... -> the DVDs are from the UK and Europe is one Region for DVDs.
I'm pretty sure I saw all 3 films from these DVDs... but I can't remember if it was on this laptop or my old one...
Oh, and no external screens either -> just the lovely 13,3" Internal screen.

before you start changing things try VLC Player first as they have much better codecs.

On that note - I do have the Vista Codec Pack installed, could that be at fault? But then other DVDs will play fine.
-> And I found the option to disable Hardware Acceleration in WinDVD, might need to do that.
Edit:
And just to add - I will not be changing any region settings, there is no need to do that as I mentioned above, UK is Europe, Europe is the same region, my laptop & OS are German -> same Region.
DRM or Region limitation in Video drivers? Question:
