When I tried to transfer a DRM copyrighted movie from my blu-ray disc to my computer (called a digital copy), it needed my windows media player to download a DRM upgrade. I did so without thinking and then I read the privacy statement. The upgrade I just downloaded basically tracks my computer with a "unique identifier code" (rootkit if you ask me). It is an invasion of privacy.
This is the website: drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/
Is there any way I can remove this "upgrade"? I am willing to uninstall my wmp, but would not want to go as far as to completely reformat my OS.

It believe it is against the policies of this web site to discuss or ask for advice on bypassing or blocking any kind of DRM.

By choosing to use Blu Ray, you have entered into a realm where you're going to have a lot of paranoia. Most of it will be unfounded. Regardless, maybe Blu Ray isn't for you. -
From reading the page at link you posted it sounded to me like the hardware id info is transferred in the process of actually downloading the update.
Anyways... in Vista you can remove an OS update through Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > View Installed Updates > right-click an update > Uninstall
...but I don't know if this counts as an OS update or not... or whether you're using Vista or not.
System Restore may be another option. -
My question is akin to rollbacking specific Window's updates such as security fixes. My only problem is that I cannot find this specific DRM-related upgrade.
I could say my reason is to conserve disk space by removing this upgrade that I do not need anymore. Or I can say I am paranoid that Microsoft is watching me. Either way, it's the same thing.
I am using Vista 64 bit.
DRM security upgrade...deleteable?
