    Hi guys

A while ago I ripped a few of my DVDs to AVI files for safekeeping and I have since lost the original disks.

I want to burn the AVI files back to DVDs so that I have a hard copy again, I'm not talking about piracy here as I already owned the originals, I just lost them when I moved house, although oddly I still have the cases

Anyway what I'm asking is this - is there an app that will burn the AVI files to a DVD (in total the AVI files only come to 4.09GB) so that I can watch it in an ordinary DVD player, or a PC DVD drive int the same way as I would an ordinary movie DVD?

I've tried Windows DVD maker in Vista and that took about 1 hour to reach 10% progress on just 2 of the films (4hrs long in total = 2.04GB in terms of filesize) so I was wondering if there are any apps that work in both XP/Vista and can do it faster than Windows DVD maker - I don't really have time to leave my notebook on for 8+ hrs to burn 4hrs of movie so the faster the better really.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice :)

well if u have nero 8 with nerovision (which is a dvd authoring program)....u can easily convert them to DVDs....or the best software I wud recommend is WinAVI 8.0....it is fairly easy to use and has all the codecs in it to create a proper dvd....I normally create DVD images using any of these two softwares and then write them to a DVD with MagicISO as it is faster and takes up far less memory whilst writing....!! they are easily downloadable from the net
    www.nero.com and www.winavi.com

Just remember to set the correct format of NTSC or PAL..!!

I'd use FAVC to author and burn them with ImgBurn. Both free. And a lot better than Nero.

Well thanks guys, I went with winAVI.

It converts one of the movies (2hrs long) to a DVD format in about 30 mins - exactly what I was looking for.

Quick question though, how do I make an ISO of the output (a folder called DVD_01_1 with the DVD file structure in it) so I can burn it using MagicISO?

I don't know about winAVI for MagicISO, but in Ashampoo, there's a menu to create a DVD ISO.

Well....I guess it ll be a bit hard to do that since nero is the only software I know which could write that dvd and save it as an image file on your hardrive....but it is quick depending upon the specs of ur cpu and hardrive....or u may goto the big menu buton in winavi and over there the 2nd menu option would be burn disc....from there it should be fairly staightforward to write a disc....just select the folder where u have converted the vob files and it will automatically detect them....
or u may write ur vob files using this software as well....its free and spyware-free

I use DVDFlick. It is a simple free program that can author most video formats into a dvd structure that is ready for burning. It works extremely well, and ive has no problems with it. The only real drawback is it doesnt support menu's by default.

Well that WinAVI is brilliant - it converted 2 avi files of about 2hrs length in about 90 minutes and then burnt them to DVD in about 15 minutes.

That was exactly what I was looking to do, thanks for the advice guys :)
