Are there any free DVD players that support 5.1 audio and speakers (not a downmix to 2.0 stereo)?

    thanks,

Nope. DVD decoding requires that you pay a license to the media conglomerates that control CSS (the encryption system) and the MPEG board (who control the video compression scheme). So you won't get any free DVD players, period. At least, not legally in the United States.
