Does anyone know of any good free DVD playing software? I formatted the hard drive on my Dell I6000 and now I don't have anything to play DVDs with.

Did your computer come with a backup CD of PowerDVD? My i9200 did, and that's what I use. In fact, I reinstalled Windows about a week ago and I still haven't installed that. I'm about to watch Meet The Fockers and I need that software.

I don't know of any free programs that are much better than Windows Media Player. I have only used PowerDVD, but from what I have found, this looks decent.

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it may be good for the job.

Windows Media Player and Real Player can both play DVDs.

Ah, thanks. I had the PowerDVD reinstallation disc in the Dell box.

For some reason neither RealPlayer or Windows Media Player will play DVDs.

Never install Real Player. Well that's what I think. They are the creators of spyware. Crappest program ever made.

PowerDVD is excellent. It's good that you found the installer.

I agree about Real. I am never going to install that on any of my computers, along with Yahoo Messenger. Real was decent, but iTunes is so much better for music, and videos can play in WMP. As for Yahoo Messenger, I installed it and a ton of crap came with it. Now it's gone, and I'll be sure to not let it come back.

Stay away from MusicMatch Jukebox, too. Bad. I don't know about the spyware part because I used it before the big spyware hype, but it was bad.

Some DVDs come with a player on them. I know Shrek did, and I've seen it on some of the other movies I've popped in my laptop.

    First PC = Vic-20, 8" 128KB Home-Brew Floppy Drive ... Current Rig = eMachines m6805 ... Quantum Leap?

You can compress and play with DVD Shrink, it works really well when you have a slower processor and/or min amount of ram. See the post also about DVD Santa if you have a burner.

Isnt' today the day after yesterday and the day before tommorrow?
