Is it possible to play DVD and CD with out booting windows? In order to save battery.

The only battery life saved is through booting. Just hibernate and come out of hibernation, Otherwise get a portable DVD player or an HP DV1000/4000.

only if it was built in to yoru machine some allow you to watch movies and play mp3s without ever going into windows such as some of the newer averatecs. This way you don't have the big memory and hard drive access of using windows.
zx5000 :: 2.4M :: 512 DDR :: 40gb 4200 RPM HD :: 15.4" :: Radeon 9600 Mobilty M10 :: Aquamark3 22,856 -
One example of a laptop that has this functionality built into the motherboard/BIOS is Alienware's Senata.
