I have heard that certain laptops, such as Sony, limit you to the DVD's that you can play on your laptop. Once you have played a DVD from a certain region on the laptop then the laptop is "locked" into now ONLY playing future DVD's from the same region
Is this true and if so, are there ways around this outrageous bit of software?

region locking is commonplace to all all dvd players; whether on your pc or standalone; i have windvd on my notebook and it locks after the 10th viewing.
some standalone dvd players are hackable either via software or hardware hacks.
i would never promote hacking, but if someone were so inclined, i'm sure google can turn up some worthwhile results. -
Thanks Drumfu, I have no qualms at all about bypassing this ridiculous setup. I happen to travel alot with work and buy LEGITIMATE DVD's from everywhere, I don't see why I can't play these whenever I want on my laptop. Will look it up, cheers

DVD Reviewer lists manufacturers of DVD players and how to recode the machines. They all use the same chip and it's only the expensive players that have unbreakable codes. Info courtesy of BBC Radio 4, amongts others.
