    DVD to AVI software? Replace No 1 DVD Ripper...

    I am looking for software to replace No 1 DVD Ripper, which for some reason is no longer working on my new laptop. I've moved from XP to Vista, as well as downloaded and upgraded my version of No 1 DVD Ripper to v. 5 and now I can't seem to get it to work, no matter what I try. I can get some formats to work, but the quality is lousy, and not what I want.

    This is for the purposes of backing up DVD's my family own. I prefer having an AVI file stored on my computer to having to bring along a bunch of DVD's when we take a trip.

    Anyways, does anyone have a suggestion for software to rip DVD's and convert to AVI?

    The search function doesn't seem to be working at this time on NBR, and I've browsed threads, but haven't found an adequet substitute.

    Free is better, but if it costs money but does a good job, that would be great.
