I've been using WinDVD for sometime now.

And today I tried to play a DVD

And it came with the message:

"Create overlay failed. Please lower your screen resolution or color depth and try again"

I lowered the resolution and nothing happened.

Do I need a particular codec?

Also I have not messed with the resolution or depth color at all. I just watched a diff DVD last night and everything worked.

My video card drivers are up to date.

    blah...

I had the exact same problem a few weeks ago on my Desktop.

My DVDs worked fine and one day the same error came up all the time and nothing would play.

I uninstalled PowerDVD and reinstalled it and it worked. I have no idea what causes the problem but re-installing it fixed it for me.

Also if I remember correctly using Media Player Classic to play the DVD will still work.

Sorry I can't be more help.
