    Hello guys,

I followed this service tweak guide for Windows Vista here: SpeedyVista.com - Windows Vista Services - Summary/Details Page

I used the tweak column. Before I did any changes to the services my dvd-ram drive was still recognized normally. But after I tweaked the services it became recognized as a CD Drive. Can anyone enlighten me on this? I want to find the particular service that might have altered something.

    -Thanks

does your recording software still work?
Does your drive still work as it should? or is it not doing something properly?

The drive can still read my Vista setup dvd, but it cannot read blank dvd/rws.

Pretty much. I also tried uninstalling the dvd drive in device manager then scanning for new hardware but it ends up the same. I'm pretty sure it's a service that I disabled, but I don't know which

The laptop maker (HP) and the laptop itself (dv2550se) does not have a driver for the DVD-RAM drive.

How about just selecting a System Restore point prior to when you made your changes (when everything was working as it should) and restore to that point in time.

When you get everything working as it should you can again apply your tweaks if you wish and monitor them one or a group at a time.

Yes I had plug and play service running. I am happy to say I fixed the problem and they are now correctly recognized as DVDRW and HDDVD-ROM drives. I believe the main service required was 'Shell Hardware Detection' which I had disabled. Thank you guys.
