Any good suggestions on a local(preferably not online) database software that can also add/hold pictures? I want to create a database/catalog for many different items, but when I pull up the information by the item# for example, I also want a picture in it on top of the description. I know M$ Access 2007 has added the picture capability, but I want to see if there are better options.

    Thanks.

What is the front end application going to be? I'm thinking you might be able to serialize the bits and store it in MySQL (which can be configured to work locally) directly.

Depending on the app, either that will work or just storing a file location in the database program which your app will retrieve.

    Thanks for the reply, Greg.

You see, that's the thing, I actually need a complete software package, I'm not sure what front end to use. Products like Quicken can also do inventory, but problem is it cannot store pictures.

As for MySQL, I played with Gallery2 and Coppermine before, they're an online photo gallery, which can actually work in my case. But I'm not sure how easy it is to install MySQL locally since I've never done it myself, and don't know how heavy MySQL is to run in a regular PC or notebook.

Something like Quicken with pictures would be perfect I think.

    :)

Just found out that Quicken has a home inventory product, but can only hold hundreds of items according to their FAQ. :confused2:
