Recently I got a new laptop and it came with a Microsoft Works Word Processor, a trial package. So I did a document and tried to send it by going to File and Send. At that point it prompted me to set up Windows e-mail. So I put in my name, clicked next, put in my Yahoo e-mail address, clicked next. Then it asked me to choose the incoming e-mail server type (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) and to type in the Incoming Mail Server and the Outgoing e-mail server (STMP) name.

I don't know what to put in these fields to successfully set up Windows e-mail. I'm in Asia right now and the local Internet Service Provider, called NESPOT, doesn't seem to come with e-mail where I could put in the server names. Is there a way to get around this or to put in the Yahoo server info? I read somewhere that maybe I have to upgrade the Yahoo package to do this. Does anyone know how to make it so that I can send documents?

Then I tried to send a test document through my Yahoo mail by attaching the document there. It got sent okay but when I tried to open it it gave a message like "Works cannot open "C:Users....file name....*.wps" The file may be in use by another application, the file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters, or the file may be corrupt."

I wonder if I should just get the real MS Word package or if that even makes a difference.
Anyway, soooo sorry for rambling. Just trying to get this set up for a college class I'll be taking.
    Many, many thanks!!

Try sending different file attchment type, like .txt or .jpg, etc., just to test your email. You could also try OpenOffice.org.

Generally Microsoft Word is more popular than Works, so files are more compatible that way. However, if you sent yourself a file and could no longer open it I would be wary of your email provider.

Gmail does support pop3 and its free. I wouldn't worry too much about the privacy issue, its not like they are taking down credit card numbers, they use context ads. I don't think its too big of a deal.

First off, I'd go with http://www.openoffice.org over Works. Works is not of much use to anyone, and it has it's own proprietary file type (the wps file you referenced) which 90% of computers cannot read since they don't have Works on their machine. With OpenOffice.org, you can at least save to a standard Word document, or start supporting open standards with an ods file.

Anyway, your yahoo mail is file. You just won't be able to send the file from within the Works program. All you have to do is save the file to your hard drive, and then make a new mail in Yahoo! and then add an attachment. It should pop up a browse dialog, then you just need to go find the file you created, and then click ok. You shouldn't need to open it to send it via email.

As people said above, there are no correct settings to set the SMTP and POP gateways to, unless your ISP provides email service for you. I wouldn't count on it.
