Does one exist on this board anywhere? Some of us computer stupid people don't know what we can safely disable.![]()

There was actually ...u ll have to search.
It contained a list of processes which can be disabled which are by default enabled. -

I think it would be easier to find a list of Nessicarry processes...since that list will be much smaller than a list of Unnessicarry processes...and probably easier to comprehend. Especially with random processes and viruses, and other stuff that seem to be new everyday.

I did try the search but didn't find what I was looking for. The info was probably there and I just didn't recognize it since I probably didn't understand it.
I currently have 46 processes running (not posting this from the Laptop in question) using 26% of physical memory. I have no idea what can be shut down safely. When I go through and shut down ones that look innocent I lose sound or some other equally bad thing happens. -
Post a screen grab of Task Manager.

Ok, as soon as I'm DLing a driver I'll log on with the laptop, connection speed right now is 24.1kb per sec so opening a web page while downloading really isn't an option. lol

Here they are.

From what I've read in the past 46 proccesses for Vista isn't bad. If you have lots of memory (which you do), it's probably not a big deal to have a few extra running.

doesnt vista have that thing that tells you what processes can be disabled, ive used it before but im not sure where it is.

j/k
That's a good point, however I don't really care what they are or what they do as the laptop is used only for gaming and internet surfing, I just want to eliminate unnecessary processes. -
That's a pretty lean system. You could consider those Toshiba hardware manager programs and some Vista programs as unneccesary, but having them there is nice. If you really need ultimate performance, you should use XP.
