Ok. I thought it was Auslogics defrags fault but that doesnt seem to be the case. i defrag my pc after i uninstall programs and i had more free space before i defragged(105gb). I defragged with auslogics and went down to 100. i thought it was a mistake so i rebooted pc, checked it and then i had 99gb of free space. wtf. so i defrag again but using windows defrag. i defragged it for awile, checked c drive and i was at 97.4 gb. i stopped it. and now im left at 97.4. wtf happened?

Have you looked at your System Restore / Shadow Copies? Most likely they're whats taking up the extra space.
Use Disk Cleanup. -
and im telling u, i looked at my free space before and after the defrag. and during. so its clearly a defrag problem eating my space. -

Two points. #1, You said you stopped a defrag. EXACTLY how did you stop it? It is NEVER a good idea to interrupt a defrag except by stop or cancel button built into the user interface. Any other method can wreak havoc on the file system. #2, as some one else pointed out you probably should run disk cleanup and see if it recovers your lost space. A
As Calvin told you no defrag is EVER going to consume hard drive space if it is allowed to run to completion. If it is interrupted however it MAY leave behind a temporary file. When it defrags an individual file, it sometimes builds a temporary unfragmented copy of the file, deletes the original and renames the temp copy to the original file name. (That is OVERLY simplified and not EXACTLY how it works but the point is the defrag process CAN consume some temp space as it works, but if it runs to completion it gives back that space to the file system.

Disk clean up if checked everything gives me back 3gb.
still missing 5gb.
Of course I stopped it by pressing cancel defrag. -

McGrady,
You might want to look at this reply in another thread. I wonder if this might help you find the missing space?

I read that already. I didn't DL anything though
-
wait a couple of days, it will come back.
dont panic. I used to lose 5gb or more once in a while. It comes back after a few days, vista probably just uses it as temporary space -

The other thing would be to run WinDirStat and see if it can locate the missing 5gb. It's there on you hard drive somewhere, either as a file or unallocated clusters. You'll find it I am sure.

So, should I still consider Auslogics safe to use on my system?

Personally, I'd just use JKDefrag.

Because it's free, doesn't install, and it defragments everything (or almost). It's basically a little app that packs a big punch.

I sometimes get "Is that a picture of you?"
If it was or if that was my wife, I think I would be standing next to her smiling in pride.
Na, it's Reon Kadena. -
