Hello,
I have just bought my new laptop and im installing new programs now. I was wondering what program i should use for defragging. I want my laptop to stay in tip top shape. And how often should i defrag like once a day, week, month?
thanks!

defragging really depends on your uses and your programs, once a month should be fine but if you're moving a lot of files in and out of your drive then perhaps once a week. -
I've been using Defraggler for years and keeps me content so far. It's safe, light and decently swift.
I'd also recommend the rest of the Piriform's portfolio for a new OS, with an accent on CCleaner -
thanks for the info! Ill download it..

You didn't say what OS you are using. Win 7 defrags automatically by default so you don't have to buy or install anything. I suspect Win 8 does the same.
In Windows 8, the drives are automatically scheduled for optimization on a weekly basis. Optimization means defrag. -
i got windows 7..

if it's installed on the ocz msata in your sig you definitely don't want to be defragging. here's the top one, two, three google results when you query 'ssd defrag.' windows 7 is supposed to disable automatic defragmentation when it detects an SSD, but your safest bet is to manually ensure it's been disabled. and no, you won't have appreciably shortened the drive's life if you've already defragged a couple times.
or TRIM if your drive is solid state. -
Thanks Mattcheau, The OP didn't state that he had a solid state drive and I forgot to look at his sig. Glad you posted.

I'd recommend defraggler. But dont defrag that msata ssd, let trim take care of that.
