Hey guys, wondering if anyone can assist me in figuring out how to delete emails etc from my Outlook account on my computer. I want the emails deleted from my old computer so that I can give it away but I want the emails to stay in the account so that I can view them on my new computer as I have set up an outlook account on the new computer.
I deleted an email from outlook on one computer and it deleted as well on the new computer.
Is there a way to just delete the items from the old computer while not deleting the items permanently from the account?
If I remove the account from outlook on the old computer will the items be deleted?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Given your description--and I am only guessing here--it seems like you have outlook set up on two computers connecting to either a pop3 account or an imap account and are accessing the the email server with both computers.
If imap, the actual email folder structure resides on the server so deleting from one or the other other will remove it from both. Think of IMAP as a "window" to your messages on the server. Although the messages appear on your computer while you work with them, they remain on the central mail server.
A POP3 does the opposite. Instead of just showing you what is in your inbox on the U's mail server, it checks the server for new messages, downloads all the new messages in your inbox onto your computer, and then NORMALLY deletes them from the server. However, Outlook can be set up to leave a copy of the message on the server and to not delete it until you delete it from outlook.
So, to answer your question more exactly we would need to know what kind of setup you have.
In broad terms, you should be able to remove the account from the old computer and it not effect the new computer...but I would like to confirm what you have setup before promising you anything. -
Are you using an Exchange-based email account? The answer would change.

reformat(full) then reinstall before you give it away. That is much better than delete, no matter what email system you are using.

You're probably going to get multiple answers, that won't align unless you let us know whether the account is accessed via imap, pop, or exchange, and whether you've downloaded emails to your local machine and deleted the server copy or left messages on the server.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I was under a bit of pressure and basically I had to get it done the same time I posted this.
So I ended up having had to do what chimpanzee said so im thankful that coming back here that seems to be an ok choice.
I uninstalled MS Office 2007 and wiped the HD and then reinstalled.
Thanks again for all your replies.
