I'm getting ready to do a fresh install of windows 7 x64 on my m1330 and was wondering if anyone else out there has attempted this?
If so, will the media bar above the keyboard still work so i can eject disks, and adjust volume?
Any other problems?
thanks

Just google "windows 7 on m1330" and there will be information about it.
Check this link for example http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/1134197.html
There's no harm in trying anyway, you always have the option to go back to your previous OS. -
Been using since beta stage and using RTM version now 90 day trial at current.
Just update your quickset to a newer version from something like xps studio or download the win7 version. video drivers I downloaded from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
you might even like the Win7 vid drivers. -
I installed Win7 on my Studio and it picked up all the drivers either from the beginning or through Windows Update. I helped with an install on a M1530 and the only driver needed was the video driver from Dell.

Win7 should pick up everything for your notebook. Things you may need to get are video drivers from nVidia. Though it should be picked up as well.
Give it a shot! -
In short, the situation is decent, but not ideal - an internet connection is required and you'll still have to install some Vista drivers. -
Thanks for all the input everyone.
I have no problem installing drivers and such. That is fairly straightforward. My biggest concern was getting the touch sensitive media bar above the keyboard to work. Gotta be able to eject the disk and adjust volume and whatnot. -
Dont see way your have problems just keep at. Try uninstalling and delete the driver you have and then replace with the ones your trying to install. -
I need help!
I did a clean install of windows 7 professional and got it up and running. Once it was finished i checked the device manager and saw that there were 4 "Base System Device" with the yellow ! by them. I did the windows updates and installed the everything.
I then installed the Biometric, Upek, and fingerprint Suite from Dell.
I still have one "Base System Device" that can't be identified. I have tested everything on the computer and it seems to work.
How can I determine what device it is that needs a driver? Also, Is it possible that this is media direct button related?
The device location as specified by the device manager is "PCI Bus 3, device 1, function 3."
Thanks -
Okay, finally figured out what it was with the help of a program.
The device is a "Ricoh Co Ltd Memory Stick Bus Host Adapter."
Can anyone tell me what that is for?
Thanks -

I have one more question for you or anyone who might know.
I installed the Win 7 x64 Nvidia drivers from Nvidia's site for my 8400m. Drivers work fine but when I hook up an external display it just mirrors the image. I would like to have it just show on the external display.
With Vista it was set to automatically cut off as soon as you plugged in the HDMI cable. I can't find it in the Nvidia Win 7 drivers to even do this. I can go into Apperance and personalization > Display > connect to a projector and do it that way but I would prefer to have it automatically do this.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks again -
I haven't tried so I can't say for sure, but does FN + F8 work?

If any of you don't use Skype then the Vista audio drivers been fine or audio drivers from laptopvideo2go.
The main reason I went for the Studio XPS Win7 audio drivers was the fact that when talking on Skype with the other audio drivers my mic audio would be distorted very chopping, now with the current Studio XPS 1645 drivers things are all clear. And the fact these are official Dell Win7 IDT drivers..

It's your card reader.
