    Dell Mini 12 PATA HD - do i need ahci drivers?

    i'm wiping vista basic off of my mini 12 for a friend and installing xp. i'm not sure if this is a stupid question or not, but do i need to slipstream the ahci drivers? the hard drive is an 80gb PATA disk.

    No. PATA doesn't have anything to do with the SATA-specific AHCI specification. As long as you're sure he has a Parallel/IDE disk, you should be fine.

    If you have to, most systems let you set an SATA drive into a compatibility mode in the BIOS so you can install Windows, install the AHCI support and then turn the SATA back on.
