Ok well im new to the forums in the sense i just made a account but i have a read a lot of info from the forums and i thought i add in a lil question that is a Big issue to me.

ok well long and short of it i just got a Dell vostro 1700 to replace my broken inspiron 9400. but there was a issue vostro come ONLY with Vista and i personal HATE vista in many ways. but none the less i switched it back to XP

but the issue Mainly is .... everything works except the USB port's my device manager doesnt kno what to do with them it has a yellow ? by it (im guessing just need's driver)

now After speakin with The Half Tech Smart Support people dell offer's i got some question's answere i had to reinstall my Driver in the correct Way so forth. none of this worked on my third visit for the day to dell support i got the rep which ruined all my fun and said they cant support me with software due to me going to XP, but i can PAY 130 dollar's to talk to Dell on Call. yeah BULL CRAP!

but the dell repmention'd that this could be fix'd i am gona need to go to registry edit it and then edit the kernel <-- now then on that note he said goodbye and this is where i have come.

Does Anyone kno how to fix this issue

Issue being gettin a Vista based Computer to work with XP and have all The USB ports work?

the 1700 doesnt come. yeah i kno doesnt make sense i fought with dell chat support for 30 minutes about it. i mean dell had vostro XP Drivers as u just linked. but i have all those and its not picking up the USB. Dell isnt gona lend any support due to wanting money and im NOT gona pay them.

At the bottom of your post, you have an edit button. You can use that instead of posting 3 separate posts in the course of 5 minutes. Just wanted to let you know as I see you are new here.

One of the first things I installed was Intel Chipset Device Software Version 8.3.0.1013. I got it directly from Intel's Web site (Dell was offering an older version at the time). I think that was enough to make most of the system device "happy". Maybe try to (re)install that.
