i have this spanking new dell xps m1530 laptop sporting a t8300 core 2 duo,3gb ram and geforce 8600m gt other features being standard dell xps features.i was really impressed by the performance until i noticed a glitch.the laptop came pre installed with vista home premium sp1 and the installation cd came along with it.i found out that whenever i am try to copy files from an external source like a pen drive or dvd it goes of fine and fast but the moment i try to multitask while copying files from external sources the copying process stops responding.but this doesnt happen while i am moving files between the hdd partitions.i thought that this might be a hardware issue in order to check out i installed xp on my system and it was working perfectly ok no problems at all.so i though it might be and home premium issue so i installed ultimate sp1 same problem was there.i then i thought it was this was a vista issue but for some reason i thought of experimenting and installed vista ultimate without sp1 and presto its working fine.but wat is puzzling me is i have seen sp1 working fine on similar configs world across.need ur comments and suggestion on this one guys.

both the dvd drive and the pendrive are on the usb port, right? (the dvd internally, that is).

if so, then it's the usb driver making problems resulting in some lag, thus "not responding" when multitasking. maybe update those drivers? check for the dell page for the most actual usb controller drivers.

Vista SP2 came out. See if this problem is resolved.
