I ran some Windows update (minus Vista SP1) and I'm having an issue with booting up my m1530.
Windows failed to start a recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power has interrupted during startup, choose start windows normally.
Launch startup repair
Start windows normally
Description: Fix problems that are preventing windows from starting.
Here are the things I have tried:
Launch start repair runs about 5 minutes and reboots to the same error.
Start Windows normally reboots to the same error.
Booting in SAFE MODE (F8) does not help. I see the command prompt where the safe mode files scroll. Then the computer reboots to the error message.
System restore does not have any restore points. I guess that is off by default. I know to turn that on when Im back up.
Last Known Good Configuration does not work.
I reseated memory and hard drive for giggles. BIOS detects right amount of memory.
I ran the hardware tests and all passed the one found in the F8 prompt.
I ran the same startup repair that is found in the prompt to boot of in Safe Mode (F8). This time I get a glimpse of what the problem is:

Is there anything else I can try before I have this opportunity reload?

system restore?

Have you tried booting from the _Vista DVD and chosing system restore?
Also, you could try the in-place repair / upgrade options with the _Vista DVD.
Edit: I meant the vista recovery disc, but could also be done with an OEM / retail version, No? Look below, to flipfire' post. -
Use this Vista recovery disc
http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ (same creators of EasyBCD)
Btw system restore should be Enabled by default.
Windows update probably downloaded and installed the wrong thing... again. -
System restore did not have any restore points. Hmmm...not sure why it was off. I don't recall disabling that because it has saved my can before.
I will look into the recovery disc. Hopefully it can bring it back.
Thank you! -
Well, I downloaded the recovery disc and it was not able to fix the problems automatically.
Grrrrr... -
Is there anything else I can try before I reload?
