Not sure if this is software or hardware issue, but during the past month I noticed my desktop clock was slowing down, and I would often have to manually select the option to sync with time server.

I tried downloading this application, which has an option to sync automatically once per hour: http://www.drive-software.com/freedesktopclock.html

That seemed to fix the problem for a week or so. However, the clock is slowing down to the point where it does not even complete an hour, so it doesn't perform the hourly sync. (Even while connected to AC power and running continuously for several hours)

Is there a way to fix this, or replace my clock with third party app of some kind that syncs constantly with remote time server?

Win 7 Pro 64-bit, hardware specs below in signature, and not sure if it is relevant but I don't use a battery, only AC power.

The clock losing time is symptomatic of a dead/dying CMOS battery. Most desktop motherboards use a standard CR2032, and it's a pretty simple job to replace. I had to do this on my dad's desktop PC a few weeks ago. The hardest part was actually finding the battery as every place in his small town was either closed or didn't stock it. We had to drive about 30 minutes to find a store that had one LOL.

A good place to find those is the local pharmacy. They usually stock those and all the other watch type batteries for hearing aids.

All well and good except that we needed the battery at about 6 p.m. on a Sunday, and the only pharmacy in town is a mom/pop operation that's essentially open during bankers' hours. The closest supermarket is 20 minutes away, and they were sold out, so we had to go another 10 minutes to a major chain pharmacy that ultimately had what we needed. I enjoy the bucolic splendor of country living, but dang if it isn't a pain in the butt when it comes to needing small convenience items at odd times of the day or night.
