Advice needed. Any suggestions as to what I might do to address this situation. Beginning at bootup, my desktop icons and system tray begin flashing and will not stop, this is happening now as I type. I seem to be able to access the internet, but this flashing is frustrating.

Have you scanned for malware lately?

Do you mean they keep refreshing? Scan for viruses or other forms of malware. Check if one process is using up a lot of CPU or RAM.

The icons and system tray blank out and come back. When this happens it also knocks me out of the block where I am typing... I then have to take the mouse and click back where I was typing to finish.
