I hope that is the case with me also; it certainly makes sense. I forgot about the whole prefetch thing that Vista does and all.

Also Vista keeps track of the files used at boot time and will EVENTUALLY perform a defrag and reorg of those files. To force that process to happen see the link in my signature below.

Hi everyone, sorry for getting in on the fun so late... only I've just received my Dell M1330 on friday. I'm having the same problem, that I can't boot Windows Vista (error 0x7B) if there is a warm restart (and thats from any os, e.g. restaring Linux etc..). But booting from the power button it's ok.

Does anyone know which update caused this?

Is it true that SP1 fixes this? How can I get SP1?

There were 6 updates posted around Jan 8th/9th that caused this, it was very annoying and it seemed most people affected were M1330 owners. Sorry but I didn't eliminate them 1-by-1, I tried SP1 RC (Release Candidate) and that fixed it for me, I don't think you can download that anymore but there's a few threads on here about how to install the proper SP1 via Windows Update, although it won't officially be released until mid-March apparently, good luck if you go for it.

Just to add... my dad has the 1520. he downloaded SP1 (the beta of coarse) and all of his windows became transparent and nothing worked. A system restore fixed it though.

Now I'm scared. Might not install those updates...
