    One that was as public as Windows 7 RC? From what I remembered no one saw a single thing about Vista until it was released, which may have explained why it initially turned out like it did.

    And if it did have a public RC like this one, how did it come out so incompatible? Can Windows 7 share the same fate?

    There was Vista betas and rc's. Win7 won't share the same fate, it's not a whole new OS, its mostly Vista's kernel.

    IIRC Vista also had a good test run as well. Several of my non techie friends were running Vista beta on their computers.

    Yes, i myself had tested vista rc build 6000.
