So, I'm curious: Does anybody have any personal experience with an issue s/he had in Windows 7 that has been fixed by the new Service Pack? I know, we can all look up the fixes that are included with SP1, but what I am interested in is, what issues that people were experiencing, and noticing, has in fact been fixed? What tangible benefits have you seen?

And, please, spare us the silly "OMGLOLZ, it feels so much snappier now!" Because that's all in your head.

the anxiety of waiting for SP1, that seems to be the number 1 issue I saw on here.

Fixed the standby reboot issue on one of my older desktop.

    ......
For my dv6 laptop, I no longer need to keep all the oem w7 MS hotfixes I requested resolve my laptop issues.

Curiously/coincidently enough, installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1 got rid of the 'slow response' message when using the microsoft generic controller driver(msahci) on my PC. However, the Intel RST drivers still score better for me for random 4k threaded/queued so that's what I use.

There's always issues, you may just not have noticed them... ;)

For example, Windows Explorer will not refresh its Window after deleting files in a folder within a Library, if the files are sorted by date. Minor, yes, but annoying. Problem is still there after SP1.

The one thing I wish was addressed is when you click on a folder in Explorer, it doesn't show folder size in the status bar. You have to right click the folder and hit properties to get that info.

Microsoft Publisher no longer lags massively after SP1 although I'm not certain it was SP1 that fixed that.

No reason not to, I installed it on several comps. It didn't break anything, in fact it made a few things better. Overall speed is no better pre SP1 although some say their system feels snappier, I have not found that the case. W7 on all of my systems has always felt snappy even before SP1.

    You should definitely install it.

Exactly, and, my poll notwithstanding, there are plenty of reasons to install it. SP1 fixes, or at least is claimed to fix, some under-the-hood issues which may come back to haunt you at some point.

I always cringe when I hear somebody talk about how his system "feels snappier", after s/he installed SP1, or "tweaked" the system, or after the last rain, or on every night with a full moon, etc., etc. Statistics show that 99.9% of such statements have no basis in fact. Of course, I just made up those statistics. :D

Hmm, and what about this annoying behavior of the Windows Explorer treeview, to scroll away from under your mouse pointer when it refreshes the network locations? Minor as well, but annoying as heck. I think it only happens when you open Explorer for the first time in a session though.

Given that Windows 7 was the "Service Pack" upgrade for Vista, I am happy enough with the OS as it is. SP1 seemed about as special as a Windows Defender update; it produced no noticeable improvements.

I had an Windows 7 authentication error, where it would tell me that my Windows is not genuine on the bottom left corner of my screen, on a real windows.

I could use windows update, send error reports, and everything else worked perfectly except for the annoying messages every now and then. SP1 fixed it up, finally figured that it wasn't fake.

You and I are on the same page about the relationship of Win 7 and Vista. I haven't gotten around to Win 7 SP1 yet, though. I want to image my hard drive first. (Old habits die hard!)

Well all interface problems i get seem to not have been fixed per Pirx feedback.
So for now the only reason to get SP1 is maybe the stupid "this windows maybe not legit" or whatever it says when i wake it from hibernation, and only sometimes.

I have the impression my battery life has slightly increased :)

System (my Acer) running now for 100 minutes (booted in battery mode), battery emptied by 11 Wh.

Just noticed something the other day - I installed the 32 bit version on an HP ProBook 5310m and it's performance as a whole seems much snappier afterwards.

Have yet to test the battery life, but it would be a big plus if SP1 had even better power management!

Has anyone heard of SP1 improving battery life?

The only thing I noticed was that my laptop became snappier. It is noticeably more responsive when dealing with IE. Don't now why. Perhaps because of a defrag I ran after the installation of SP.

"All the issues"? Not sure how you get that. You do realize that you will rarely hear from the folks who have no issues? Typically, in these forums the only folks who bother to post are those that had some problem.

An it would also give me errors on audio files "server execution failed" even if i had just played same file a couple of seconds ago, start up time was long too. So uninstalled sp1 and everything is back to normal, ill try it again later...

You're right. That was an ignorant statement on my part.
I guess I just saw several threads with people claiming to have issues and made an assumption.
