I got one of those Launch Party kits with the Free Retail Edition of Ultimate, but I did not realy thrown any "party" at all. Mostly me watching TV eating ice cream, waiting for W7 to install.

So what did you guys do? Any Parties.

I know alot of people turned away from the Launch Party hosting thing because they thought they actuall had to throw a real party.

I had a great party. Myself and a friend of mine were both finalists and we organized one party together at my place.

Great fun. Not too much to do with Windows 7 but still a lot of promotion for 7 went on.

I think that holding a party for the release of an Operating System would be a rather unusual thing to do. Some retailers might have held "parties", although I was too busy doing crazy things with my friends to have been involved in any of them.

They gave me a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate so I thought it would be nice to have a party. I did not do anything apart from giving out the tote bags and it was just another party, nothing to do with MS.

I blew it. I knew about this party signup and I didn't do it. Oh well, I probably won't upgrade my desktop(on XP) till the next Windows comes out and if I buy another laptop it will have Win 7 on it.

Actually having my party tonight! Had to push it back a day, and only a few people are coming but it should be fun. Beers, snacks, games, and windows 7 being used as a media center.

I was kind enough to not invite friends to my party. The next day I woke up with an install hangover, but how sweet it is now!

I wonder which marketing genius at MS thought that people would seriously throw a party for an operating system release.

It's not about throwing the party itself, but more about the hype around it.

How many friends did you tell about it? I told everyone about my Win7 Launch Party.

Now even the less tech savvy people keep asking whether it is a good idea to buy Win7 as they are not fond of Vista.

A friend who never even considered upgrading his Win XP has upgraded to 7.

I think that the actual effect of that marketing trick was better than MS ever expected.

Well, probably they are just computer illiterate or belong to the MacSect.

Even a friend who is an Apple fan came to the party and wants to buy the OS (not because of the party, he liked it even before the party)

Most of my friends are indeed computer illiterate. After all, I hang out with normal people who don't even know which version of Windows they're using.

The ratio of my friends who understand computers to those who don't is like 1:10.

I was studying private and public defences on prevention of crime, duress and necessity on criminal law during the 2 hours of Windows 7 installation. And god... it was an "awesomely well spent" 2 hours of my life...
