Hey all,
HP suggests that you create a backup image of your hard drive on a DVD. I didn't do that thinking the separate partition with everything is sufficient. Should I go ahead with burning that DVD? I don't think it'll be useful if I have the hard drive version. Unless my hard drive fails or something...but how often does that happen?!

often enough that people will post a thread on how to recover their data from a failing drive
There wouldn't be data recovery services if drives did not fail. Nor would there have been such a brou-haha when the manufacturers of drives lowered their warranties, why would you need it if the drive didn't fail, right?
In any case, the biggest mistake people tend to make is assume computers don't fail. I had a client ask me why her hard drive might be a problem, the computer was only 30 months old. I asked her if her new car had any problems within 30 months, and the answer was yes. Funny how people can accept cars having a problem but not a computer?
Always make backups when possible. The time it takes to make and restore a backup is less than the time it takes to try to find and implement a resolution when you don't have it. -
A hard drive can go kaput in as little as a month or many years from now. But absolutely follow goofball's advice, because you just never know if it's going to happen to yours.
Did you burn a backup DVD of your HD?
