In order to delete all bloatware from my oem xp, after backing up my registry, I deleted all bloatware via the “add/remove” in the control panel. Then via regedit I repeatedly used the “find “ to dig out all instances of unwanted stuff following up with invoking “RegCure” several times until no more problems were found. Although it appears to be working I'm not sure if I did something wrong which will come back to haunt me later. Did I?

Most people will probably tell you that digging into the Registry isn't a good idea - though I always do it myself when cleaning up Windows. The slight gain in performance in most instances, probably isn't worth the risk that you'll damage your system. I'm not familiar with the app you used, but would guess if all is well now, you're probably ok.

Personally, after using the "add/remove" function, I search the system for remnants, and then use CCleaner and/or RegSeeker to clean up the Registry and give the system a final going over.

A clean install, if the option is available, is a better idea, IMO.

I did it the way you did Eagle97, although I have never used "RegCure", I have used CCleaner and jv16 PowerTools. I also go into the file system and clean up the directories/folders and files left behind.

While I agree a clean install is best, this method has worked for me.

I do recommend having a good full backup that has been successfully restored (to validate that it can be!).

Don't dig too deep into the registry and delete stuff. You will potential problems later on.
