I'm a Pidgin user but Digsby has always interested me but not so much anymore. Their latest installer is a downloader filled with bloatware. And boy, do I mean FILLED. It's not even the simple uncheck if you don't want it, there is a lot more to it. I've heard Digsby auto-updates itself. Question is, can I download an old version and it will update itself to the latest version bypassing the bloatware installer? Yes, it isn't hard to read and be careful not to install bloatware, but I've read that some users have unchecked and declined all the bloatware, yet it still manages to slow their pc down and etc.
I do like some of their features and am willing to try their product out, but not at the extent of this ridiculous amount of bloatware. Being a great free app., they should know better not to do this. It's only going to want current Digsby users flock over to Pidgin.

I concur, the new freeze.com installer was a major turn off. Add in the fact that they use your background CPU cycles for research purposes w/o your advance notice and that was the straw that broke the camel's back. I know that they must monetize somehow esp. in today's economy: http://forum.digsby.com/viewtopic.php?id=2994

But they should have clearly let users know about the background research in advance (it can be disabled), and perhaps should have used a better installer-the one Trillian uses is a great example-it does have offers (ask.com toolbar, and Weather Channel app) but it's clearly defined with a clean installer page with checkmarks on each page of the installer. Many people it seems was turned off by the way the new installer in digsby worked. (very cluttered, poor UI) However, it is possible to get the old installer: http://forum.digsby.com/viewtopic.php?pid=15734#p15734

Personally, I still have it on my computer, but have been using it less and less-I was mainly turned on to Digsby as a stopgap for Trillian which was becoming really stale, but now i'm testing Trillian Astra. If they tweaked the installer, I think Digsby would succeed a lot more, and I loved it when I used it. :)
