I recently discovered this under the free software thread.
For anyone that has used pidgin, how does it compare? Resources? What about video chat?
Is it worth checking out or not?

way better than pidgin in my opinion. i'm still new to it, so i don't know about video chat... but i like it way more than pidgin.
-
I switched from Pidgin to Digsby. The memory usage is definitely more, but theres a big update next week and thats supposed to be the #1 fix on their list. I use it only for IM, but I have tried out the email and facebook parts of it too and they work really well. It also looks alot better than Pidgin.

I prefer the interface of Digsby to Pidgin. It's kind of like Adium for Windows.
-
wow, thats 3 to none. guess i should check it out for sure then. pidgin hasnt quite been living up to my expectations lately. i just wish digsby had QQ as well.
-
I like Digsby. I've used Trillian, Miranda and Pidgin, but Digsby just got me because of its features and look.
-
So i just downloaded and installed it.
Do i really have to create a digsby account just to log into my other chat program accounts? does it send a confirm email, or can i just put a bogus one in there. The last thing i want to do right now is register with somehting else... -
Yes you have to create an account.
This is part of its feature, where you can just login to Digsby account to access your preference and accounts from any computer which Digsby is installed. -
The memory usage is a lot more, it may slow down your start up time if you're worried about that kind of thing. I couldn't tell you if it's better or not, you'd have to try both out and figure that out for yourself. I personally prefer Pidgin.

I like this feature, kind of saves you a lot of hassle if you use multiple computers or move from one to another.
-
Doesnt this mean that basically all of our password to email, chat, etc are being stored somewhere on the internet?
-
I dont care to access from multiple computers in different places.
Does anyone know if there is a way to just use it without creating a digsby accout? -
Yes they are stored but it is not available just to be gathered. Any good provider is going to encrypt your information.
