I want to disable the AUTORUN feature on Windows. I right click the drive and click on properties, autorun and select :take no action. However, at times it still does an autorun. How do I set a global take no action for each media type?

stupid question, but of course you know that you are setting that "take no action" thing for a particular type of files on the disk right?
on the autoplay page there's a dropdown list of files so you will need to go through every item on that list and select "take no action"

how about just disable autorun all together in XP?
start-->run-->regedit-->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-->SYSTEMS-->CURRENTCONTROLSET-->SERVICES-->CDROM-->double click on "AutoRun" in the right hand column and enter 0 for the value.

Probably will need to reboot in order for it take into effect. This will turn off autorun for the whole cd/dvd drive, so any time you insert a disc, you'll have to manually access it.

You can also use Tweak which has some other nice features.

CDs/DVDs are fine to autorun for me what about external usb drives? It seems no matter how many times I tell it to take no action under all the file types it still pops up when i plug it in asking how to open it? Can you do this in the registry? Thanks

That to what I am referring. Additionally, since I have 6 virtual CD ROMS they all try to load, if there is an autorun feature in the root directory.

The registry adjustment corrected the former issue but not the latter. I am fine with that.

For me to selectively make property changes for each type of media on 7 drives is ridiculous.
