This is the fifth time I've had to completely reinstall my Windows 7 OS. It seems that update finds it is a GOOD time to begin installing "critical" updates when the computer is beginning to put itself to sleep. IS there a way I can turn this off and do it manually when I WANT to? It's getting a bit tedious having to reinstall OS every month because windows software is and Vulnerable.

Ok, so i removed anything pertaining to bad language that could be considered language filter bypass, i understanding you're angry, but the rules about not bypassing the language filter still apply.
Now on to your question, open windows update, click on change settings in the left pane and set to check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them. You will get a prompt in the taskbar when new updates are available, but you'll be the one choosing when to download and install. -

In addition to what Tijo said, I usually disable the whole service. Then periodically update at my convenience. The whole windows update model irritates me to no end.

If you are installing windows so much... do a clean install with all the updates and ghost the drive so you have a clean image with all the updates done. and I think microsoft isn't half as bad as say adobe.

On Windows 7
On a 64bit system: run C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javacpl.exe with Administrator priveledges
On 32 bit system: run C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javacpl.exe with Administrator priveledges
To do this, follow the path in your Windows Explorer browser and Right Click javacpl.exe, then select "Run as Administrator"
