I use Daemon Tools lite and I disc image all my games onto an external HD (personal use only). Some of my games (newer ones) don't require a CD, while other ones do (older to a couple years ago). I have found a limited amount of games to work with the disc image (.mdf .mds). Others I had to go to extreme measures to get them to work without the cd (yes, I know, but I can't carry around the cd all the time).

I would prefer to be legit as possible, especially games with drms. Is there any disc imaging programs that works without having to use the cd?

Not really, a lot of games use disk copy protection schemes and disk cloning detection software. I've never found one program that works 100%

slysoft virtualCD (free) and their various paid-for products are also very good.

since a) we don't have your machine and b) we don't have your games c) we can't tell you for sure what will work and what won't. But both slysoft and the A120% people run decent forums where people might have posted your questions/answers before.

Here are some games that I can't get to work with Daemon Tools: 2K10 Basketball, Madden 08, and 1701 A.D. are some of them.
