I've seen many threads about a bios issue and the laptop switching between integrated and discrete graphics. Is there a way to tell what's being utilized? I know Catalyst lets you select Power Saving or High Performance, but does it really kick start the Radeon card when needed? (I have the NP700Z5B-S01UB with 6490M)

    Thanks!

Not knowing what O/S your using would help as well as to why it does what it does. And alot depends on how you customized it usage and what the drivers are set at. You should contact AMD about their driver and see why it does what it does or you need to check on the driver setup screen and see what kinda power setting you have it set at to know if this is hardware or software based switching of the graphics from one or the other.

    1) Sorry, W7U.
    2) How can I check what you mean by "what you've [SIC] customized" and which drivers I have?
    3) Where can I check the power settings?

Is there a way to force/ensure discrete graphics are enabled?

There should be a taskbar icon for AMD or ATI catalyst settings and in there you should look to power setting or graphics power switching to see what the setting are. I don't have such a switching GPU but that is where I would first look is the power setting in the ATI catalyst control panel.
