I'm thinking of enabling disk write caching for my M1530 (XP, latest intel chipset and matrix storage manager drivers) with Hitachi 5k320. I'm weary of data loss but the prospect of performance gain makes my curious. If there is an outage or improper shutdown, will only data be lost or can the harddrive be corrupted beyond repair (by restoring backup image or reinstalling windows)? Does it cause bad sectors or other nasties?

I've had loads of outages and improper shutdowns, with those policies enabled....
Never noticed any data loss or whatever !!

I didn't realize it at the time, but it appears that updating to the latest drivers automatically enabled disk caching. I guess I'll give it a go.
