When i install service packs, like for Windows XP or Office XP, do I need to install them sequentially? or does the latest service pack update everything to the latest standard? For example, do I need to install Service Pack 1 before I install Service Pack 2, or can I just skip installing Service Pack 1 and install Service Pack 2 and everything will be the same as if I had installed Service Pack 1?

I dont believe that they have to be in order o and btw in your title..i dont think there is a sp3
-
There is SP3 for Office XP.
-
No. You can just install the latest Service Pack for Windows, I believe. A Service Pack collects all the previous patches together into one install.

Well, if you run Windows Update, you will notice that it'll require you to download and install SP1 BEFORE it will allow you to download and install SP2. So, you do have to install them in order using Windows Update at least.

Download the SP2 network install.

Install Windows XP, then install SP2. After SP2, visit Windows Update. -
Windows update force you to have at least sp1 before you can use it.
but the SP2 contain all the previous updates, so you can just install SP2 over a clean XP and then visit Win. Update.
Not sure the same rule works also for Office, but you can try -
Yes its also the same case with office. I've been installing office 2003 sp2s after every fresh install.

office XP recommends installing SP1 before proceding to SP2, etc.
Do I need to install SP1, then 2, then 3?
